Are you ready to “Seize the moment

Are you ready to “seize the moment” on the Transit SPLOST like our Board of Commissioners Chairwoman, Lisa Cupid, claims she wants to do? At least that is what she said during the last Board of Commissioners meeting. The difference of course being that she wants to seize the moment as in seizing a few hundred dollars from your wallet for the next 30 years.

We, the taxpayers, also need to seize the moment by vigorously and effectively opposing this attempt to permanently grow government by spending billions of dollars on mass transit that the overwhelming majority of us will never use. Such wanton waste, designed to line the pockets of political insiders must not be allowed to stand. Philosopher and novelist Ayn Rand hit the nail on the head with respect to what we are now facing when she said:

“When you see that money is flowing to those who deal, not in goods, but in favors – When you see that men get richer by graft and by pull than by work, and your laws don’t protect you against them, but protect them against you – When you see corruption being rewarded and honesty becoming self-sacrifice – you may know that your society is doomed.”

These prophetic words were written in 1957, yet they can apply to Cobb County in 2022 if we allow it to happen. To prevent that, we need to start getting active. Over the next few months, the Cobb Taxpayers Association (CTA) will be implementing a broad based, citizen activist campaign to defeat the spending interests from squandering your hard-earned tax dollars, and we will give you multiple opportunities to engage, depending on your interests and inclinations. For right now we are looking for people to speak before the Board of Commissioners meetings and express our principled opposition to their spending agenda. If you have an interest in doing that, please get back to us via return e-mail.

And there is another thing that all of us can do and need to do to win the day, and that is to contribute to CTA. While we will never be able to raise the hundreds of thousands of dollars that the big spenders will spend, we still need a well-funded campaign. Personally, I am loath to ask anyone for money. I’m just not comfortable with it, which is why we haven’t asked for several years. Any solicitation we’ve ever made was for specific, targeted campaigns, and with this Transit SPLOST, we have the biggest potential transfer of wealth from taxpayers to the purveyors of pull alluded to in Ms. Rand’s quote then we have ever seen. The Braves Stadium rip-off was small change compared to what we are facing now.

So won’t you please donate whatever you can reasonably afford via Pay Pal on our website? (See the icon on the top of this e-mail) Or if you prefer you can write us a check and send it in the mail. Either way, we could really use your help. My thanks in advance.

In liberty,

Lance Lamberton,

ChairmanCobb Taxpayers Association
